David Midthunder was taught the importance of his culture and its traditions while growing up on the Ft. Peck Indian reservation in Montana, where he is an enrolled tribal member. From there, his appreciation of indigenous cultures grew, and he attended the University of Utah to study cultural anthropology, focusing on Plains Indian Cultures.

For over a decade now, David has been working as an actor for television (ROUGH RIDERS, INTO THE WEST) and in movies (Ron Howard’s THE MISSING, Touchstone’s HIDALGO). His anthropological studies and knack for languages, however, have not gone to waste in Hollywood. When not in front of the camera, David has been able to utilize his skills as a technical, cultural, and spiritual advisor on television and theatrical productions. Because he was raised traditionally, he carries a sensitivity for spiritual matters that allows him to display on screen what he feels is enough to add verisimilitude to the story without revealing anything too sacred within Native American religion or ceremony. In the past couple years alone, Midthunder has worked as a dialect coach, technical consultant, and/or ADR artist on television shows such as DEADWOOD, THIEF OF TIME, COYOTE WAITS, EDGE OF AMERICA, and DREAMKEEPER, and on feature films such as WINDTALKERS, SPIRIT: Stallion of the Cimarron, and HIDALGO.

David belongs to the only Native American loop group in Los Angeles. This loop group does post production dialogue recording and has enhanced such popular films as Academy Award nominated “SPIRIT: Stallion of the Cimarron,” ABC’s “DREAMKEEPERS,” and Steven Speilberg’s “Into the West.”

Midthunder is a member of MEDICINE SHIELD DANCERS, an all Native American dance troupe that travels to venues from staged arenas to schools all around the world, educating the public about Native American issues (both historical and contemporary) through music, dance and storytelling.

David lives by a strict moral code and believes that the body is a temple. He is seriously into health & nutrition and currently holds certification from NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) and works as a personal trainer to a few lucky individuals.  He lives an active lifestyle and spends his spare time enjoying such sports as surfing, mountain biking, skateboarding, and snowboarding.
